Review: Anastasia DipBrow Pomade

photo 1 (16)

Why oh why has it taken me this long to write another post :( Well I’m back with a new review and this time it’s all about brows. So I recently purchased two of Anastasia’s raved about brow products, the Brow Wiz that I really wanted as I saw it had a pen and spoolie all in one, but my real excitement was over the DipBrow Pomade. Having seen a lot of positive reviews on this I really couldn’t wait to try 1 (16)

photo 2 (15)

When it arrived I couldn’t help but to admire the lovely packaging, small glass container with the beautiful logo on the lid, light and small enough to carry in your daily makeup bag yet packed with product. I did wish it had arrived with a angle brush or some kind of an applicator as it does come with a hefty price tag! Oh well, I knew since the product itself is so “amazing” I could live with some of my slightly older tools.

photo 3 (12)

Surprise, surprise, I didn’t at all like the product when applied to my brows…I wish I had a picture but the ONE time I used it I was mortified at my “tatooed” fake looking brows. Even after applying with light strokes this chocolate colour appeard black on my brows and drew all the attention. If you like sharp strong brows that look painted on to your face then you might like this product but I quickly pulled out a face wipe and tried to wipe away every memories of this disaster.

Interestingly one morning I was running around looking for my eyeliner that couldn’t be found and ended up swiping my DipBrow Pomade on the lid as a liner and could not believe the gorgeous soft brown day time appropriate liner I had just found:-D Since then I have been using it every single day not on the brows, but on the lids:)

That’s my experience with the DipBrow Pomade, any suggestions or experience of your own?

What’s In My Travel Makeup-Bag

photo 2 (14)

Another day and another holiday related post. I recently purchased these makeup bags from Superdrug, a set of 3 in small medium and large. Made of plastic material that can be wiped clean and and store plentiful, this not only makes it easier for you to see what you actually threw in there when u were packing in a hurry, but it also makes security a whole lot easier as I didn’t need to take the liquids out and place them in one of those “freezer bags” that they provide you with at the airport. They were happy for me to just place my small see-through makeup bag on the trolley:)

small and medium sizes (medium being a giveaway for the sis)

Now I always love the “what’s in my bag” style videos so I thought I would post some pictures of my little makeup travel bag.

Revlon MATTE Balm

photo 2 (13)

Another airplane review:-) I’m sure people around me found me to be totally weird swatching colours and concealers on my arm and taking images but I just couldn’t resist;-) As I mentioned in my previous post I was off to Norway to meet my lovely family and I decided to grab some goodies for my sisters. This balm I think was the higlight of the gifts! These ultra moisturising balms are highly pigmented, soft as butter and glides on sooo smooth that it’s hard to believe that it’s a lovely matte finish to this lovely! Don’t get me wrong, I love me some glossy lips BUT there are days and times (and makeup looks) that require a matte lippy and I think this is the perfect answer to that. No more mac’s overpriced ultra drying matte lipsticks, this is the answer:-)

I got both my sisters the shade called ELUSIVE which is a wonderful shade of light dusty pink. Tanned or pale this is a shade every girl can rock, I’ve compared it to to a bright pink clinique chubby stick to show it’s true shade and matte formula.

Revlon (left) vs Clinique

The last image shows it’s staining power, after a good rubbing with some tissue it still stains just as well as the pricier clinique. Simply a MUST HAVE! Do share if you have any of the balms that you swear by:-)

LA Girl – Pro conceal **airplane review**

I cannot believe it’s been so long since my last blog post, feels like I’ve been so busy doing nothing at all really..

We flew in to Norway this morning (to greet my cute little nephew to this world!!) and as I was leaving home the postman arrived with my exciting package. Perfect timing, as what better way to waste time on the plane than playing with makeup goodies??

I’m keeping this post short and just letting you enjoy the pictures I took – this is of the LA GIRL COSMETIC pro concealer and I have to say I absolutely love it! So far I have only really swatched it on my arms lol, but boy is it going to be fun to play around with. I will put an updated review after using them as a concealer/contour. So far: great consistency, matt finish and a bargin at £6 each as it is often compared to the more expensive mac pro-longwear concealer that I love! Let me know if you have tried these or something similar that you would suggest:-) Hope this helps! xoxo

By Terry – Ombre Blackstar

photo 5 (4)

For those of you that haven’t heard of By Terry, it’s a brand created by the same woman responsible for giving us the YSL Touche Eclat, she holds the dream of being “the iPhone of makeup”. So she knows what she is doing and therefor charging us accordingly, as the By Terry products are ridiculously expensive!

It wasn’t after I heard two well known makeup gurus rave about the By Terry Ombre Blackstar that I started doing my research and found mysef heading to space NK for some swatches NOT to purchase, ONLY swatch..suddently it jumped out of my hand and landed at the til and money flew out of my bag and into to hands of the lady standing at the til, and so I left space NK not only swatching but now owning an Ombre 1 (13)

This ultra luxurious packaging  contains 1.2g of shadow stick and retailing for £28 it’s by no means cheap BUT hard to resist once you’ve tried it. It’s SO increadibly creamy in texture dries up very nicely and feels seamless on your lids and DOES NOT BUDGE! I gave it the ultimate test by wearing it on my greasy lids without eye primer and I got 7h of wear before some creasing started to appear!! The light capturing particles make this shadow appear slightly wet in the most beautiful way possible (will post a makeup look using this). My only disappointment would be the shade Misty Rock is a gorgeous dusty pink on it’s own but I find that blended with other products it appears more grey than I would like it to be. Maybe I’m just not blending it with the right products?!

For most of us a By Terry product would be a nice treat not a regular purchase so I hope this review was helpful to those of you planning on getting the Ombre Blackstar.

Let me know if you have a favorite By Terry product.

So I decided to make my way to Space. NK!

I went to have a look at a completely different product but as I entered the shop (excited like a kid in a candy shop) I was surprised to see THIS!:-)photo 1 (10)

outer packaging

The NARSassist Cheek Kit (I believe there is no other name for this beauty) starring at me and saying “buy me..” I’m not going to continously blab about this product, we have all heard about Nars famous Laguna and Orgasm that retail for £22.50 EACH, this kit contains both of these AND a highlight colour in Devotee for £35, as if that’s not enough excitement for you it even comes with a blush brush!! Yes I know, that a bargin for Nars!  photo 2 (10)

travel size super soft multifunctional brush

This added bonus of a makeup brush is soft like butter and can be used to apply bronzer, highlighter and blush, all of that in a convenient travel size.

It’s soft and almost rubbery texture of the packaging is stunning, it will fit perfectly into a makeup-bag and the good size mirror makes it easy to use on the go if you fancy!

Obviously It’s the inside that counts, and I have to admit I haven’t yet tried it on my cheeks so I’m intrigued to see how it looks and how long of a wear I can achieve. Now that I own my first Nars beauty I am keen to see how it compares to the much cheaper sleek blush that I’m currently loving. I’m just SO excited to get three goodies in one!! photo 5 (3)

photo 2 (11)

Laguna – lovely bronzer that would fit most skin types, got a very slight shimmer to it that rather than looking sparkly makes the bronzed area appear like a natural glow.
Orgasm – raved about pink/coral/peach blush with a satin texture and again gold flecks of shimmer, very similar to Sleek Rose-Gold.
Devotee – pink based beige highlight with frosted finish is how this is described, definitely for those looking for a glow.

Hope this helps,

Ultimate Full Coverage Foundations

I know that summertime is around the corner and most of us feel comfortable just sweeping on some BB cream or a light weight foundation….NOT ME!

Having suffered from acne throughout my teenage years and now dealing with the scar tissue I have tried and tested the full coverage foundations that are out there, the ultimate test is for the foundation to stay put even through a hot summer day, not appear cakey yet completely cover all of the imperfections!

For years I relied on high-street brands such as L’Oreal which as a student felt like a splurge and admittedly layers of a thicker L’Oreal foundation did indeed do the job but on my oily skin the foundation would only give me 4 hours of wear until my white heads would come knocking on the door again to say CAN’T HIDE US :/

Anyway before I carry on blabbing, this post is about the ultimate full coverage foundations I have found. They cover very well, a little goes a LONG way and it’s long wearing!

I will start with the on to the left Estee Lauder Double Wear Maximum Coverage, now I know that the original Double Wear is a much appreciated foundation, I have tried it and it gives a good finish but the Maximum Coverage is on a different level all together!! A pea size of this foundation is enough to give you that flawless face covering ANY imperfection or discolouration. Retailing for £28.50 it is pricier than the high street brands but the 30ml product will last you for 50+ applications. Best of all it really doesn’t cake up on your face, if anything it removes the need to use a concealer so ends up feeling very light weight. Yes it lasts all day, honestly it is a stubborn foundation which brings me to the one (minor) con, face wash alone just isn’t enough to remove this thing, you really have to go over with some sort of makeup remover, having said that, it’s still an awesome product worth every single penny, make sure you get the closest match though as unfortunately mine is too pink for me but works well as long as I blend it out on the neck too.

Illamasqua Rich Liquid Foundation…I have to admit I have a love/hate relationship with this fella, again a little goes  a long way with this foundation, it’s thick and lush when you play around with it at first but upon application it looks (and feels!) very heavy. This makes a great evening foundation as it truly turns your face into a blank canvas ready to be contoured and shaped BUT I find that after a few hours dry patches and fine lines start appearing (even after using a primer). At £30 for 30ml it’s a tad more expensive than the Estee Lauder and you can see on the image that one stroke of this foundation didn’t cover the black liner as well as one stroke of the Maximum Coverage. Although if you don’t minde touching up with powder throughout the day and are looking for that full coverage foundation that feels heavier and looks great on pictures than this is the product for you.

Hope this review helped, let me know what full coverage foundations you swear by.

Slimming Down For Summer 2014 – Beauty Treats

nail varnish- google

The past week has been SOOOO busy and hectic it’s crazy!!  Finally gotten a ton of random things sorted and now I can concentrate on a big goal of mine:) must get slimmer and feel healthier!! Not just for this summer but permanently, and unlike keeping a holiday as a goal I have set some mini goals for myself. So the plan is to get rid of about 2 stone(!!) for each 1/2 stone lost I will treat myself to a beauty product of my wish CAN’T WAIT!!

I’m hoping this time next week I will have reached my first mini goal and the first thing(s) on my list: SPRING NAIL VARNISHES!! This will not be a big splurge as I don’t really bother with high end nail polishes, nonetheless very exciting!!

Do you have any similar goals? and what would your ideal beauty treat be?

Barry M: Kohl Pencil

photo 1 (4)

A quiiiick mentioning of the Kohl Pencils from Barry M. A recent purchase and at first glance this little guy appears to be very dry and boring but when you swatch it you realise how shockingly soft and buttery this actually is, while still providing an intense colour.

I chose this lovely brown shade no.28 which is dark enough to emphasize the eye but soft enough to avoid an all too sharp appearance for a day look.

photo 1 (4) photo 2 (4)

Easy to blend with a clean finger or a blending brush to create a rather nice smokey look or base for a shadow because on it’s own it did unfortunately smudge and almost disappear after 3 hours wear. Since this is a matt shade I decided to try it as an eyebrow pencil, gently swept some setting powder on top and voila, it turned into a long lasting easy to use  brow pencil whoop whoop!

Let me know if this was helpful,

Sleek – Rose Gold Blush

photo 2 (6)

Yeah I totally wish I had a Nars blush (orgasm to be specific) to compare, but there are just soooo many reviews battling out Nars vs Sleek blushes.  Being a Nars virgin I thought I would start of with Sleek and see if I fall in love with one of their blushes which might prevent me from eyeing up Nars…let’s hope so at least, seeing as Nars blush retails for £20+ vs Sleek’s humble £4.99!

I was recomended by a good friend of mine to try the Aruba by sleek, being a sucker for makeup related recommendations I was feeling very giddy and excited when making my way to superdrug, but to my disappointment the aruba wasn’t in stock, but determined to try out their raved about blushes I made a last minute decision of grabbing the Rose Gold which the same friend has suggested was the dupe of the notorious Nars Orgasm.

photo 1 (6)

This 8g of product comes in a (not so exciting) square plastic packaging, but do not let the packaging fool you as inside it holds a decent size mirror and of course the gorgeous product itself.

photo 2 (6)

I can see this colour being flattering on most skin colours. It’s fair to say that it’s a pink with peach undertones and flecks of gold inside, I find the mix of gold and pink really brings out the peach tint, very pigmented but applied with a light hand this product will avoid turning you into a barbie with bright pink cheeks (unless that’s the look you are going for of course).

photo 3 (4)

photo 4

What really surprised me was how true to colour it is, basically the colour you get in the pan is actually the colour you get when you swatch it (which I hope comes across in the pictures). A little goes a long way with this little guy and furthermore it’s a breeze to apply, certainly a powder but smooth and almost buttery on application. Love Love Love!

Any sleek blushes or product you would recommend??

Hope this was helpful!
